Landon’s Path to Success with Occupational Therapy
Patient Stories
Background
Landon, a lively 6-year-old with an eagerness to learn, started seeing his occupational therapist, Laura, because he was having difficulty with handwriting. While his teachers noticed his struggle to form letters correctly and keep up with classwork, his parents were concerned that it was affecting his confidence. As Laura began her initial evaluation, she also noticed something else—Landon seemed to struggle when tracking objects or focusing his eyes during visual activities. This observation led her to suspect an underlying visual challenge that might be contributing to his handwriting difficulties.
Treatment Plan
Laura developed a treatment plan that combined fine motor coordination exercises with activities to enhance his visual skills. In their regular sessions, Landon worked on activities that required him to use both his hands and eyes together. Laura used fun, engaging tasks such as building blocks, mazes, and handwriting drills designed to strengthen his fine motor skills and visual tracking abilities. The exercises were challenging, but Laura’s supportive and playful approach made them exciting for Landon.
As the weeks passed, Landon’s improvements were undeniable. His handwriting became more legible and fluid, and he could now form letters with ease. But even beyond that, his ability to follow along during reading activities and stay focused on his work had dramatically improved. His confidence grew as he no longer felt frustrated by tasks that used to be difficult.
Progress
Thanks to Laura’s keen observation and customized treatment plan, Landon is now thriving. His prism glasses, combined with regular occupational therapy, have helped him overcome both his fine motor and visual challenges. Today, Landon’s handwriting is clearer, and he can follow reading much more easily. His teachers and parents have noticed his increased enthusiasm for schoolwork, and he approaches his learning with newfound confidence.
Landon’s journey is a reminder that sometimes the root of a challenge lies deeper than expected, and with the right support, children can achieve incredible progress.
