Continue on Springfield Ave for approximately 2.5 miles. Turn left onto Plainfield Ave. Continue on Plainfield Ave for about 1 mile. New Providence Recreation is part of TryCAN, a collaboration of communities formed to provide a comprehensive selection of recreational opportunities for kids with special needs with no residency restrictions or non-resident fees.

Special Education Parent Advisory Group

The New Providence SEPAG is a parent-led group that facilitates open, transparent collaboration among New Providence families, school district and community to promote inclusion, understanding of, respect for and support of all differently abled children. SEPAG hosts monthly meetings, where parents have the opportunity to provide input on special education issues, as well as workshops and information-gathering opportunities for parents.

About New Providence, NJ

Located in Union County, New Providence NJ covers 3.7 square miles and has a population of more than 13,000 residents. Richard Nicolls, The first settlers were a Puritan colony that came to the area in 1720. The abundance of large flocks of wild turkeys led to the initial name for the area of “Turkey”. In 1759, a crowded church balcony collapsed. It was considered a miracle that no one was seriously injured in the disaster. The miracle was soon referred to as a divine act of “providence.” The small town thereafter became known as “New Providence” and included present-day Summit and Berkeley Heights.

Within the New Providence neighborhood of Murray Hill is Nokia. New Providence School District currently links together the computer networks of its buildings by using a wireless LAN which includes Yagi antennas at two towers by the large copper pyramid-shaped roof. The transistor and laser were invented in this Bell Laboratories when it was part of AT&T.

The New Providence School District is A+ rated by Niche.com and ranked the sixth safest school district out of 243 schools districts in New Jersey. The district serves 2,439 students in PK, K-12 with a student teacher ratio of 13:1. There are two elementary schools, one middle school, and New Providence High School.

New Providence has been ranked 29th in the annual Safest Cities in New Jersey list by home security company Safewise, a home security company. The survey includes towns with populations over 2,500 residents and that exceed the median population for the state.
