Driving Directions From Berkeley Heights

It typically takes around 10 to 15 minutes to drive from the center of Berkeley Heights to the center of Scotch Plains, covering a distance of approximately 4 to 5 miles. Head southwest on Springfield Ave toward Plainfield Ave.Continue on Springfield Ave for approximately 2.5 miles. Our office is located on the second floor of a Medical Office building at the corner of East Second Street and Front Street.

Parents of students with IEP's are encouraged to participate in a group to share ideas, provide input and foster a relationship of collaboration and open communication with the District Department of Special Services.

About Berkeley Heights NJ

Located in Union County, New Providence NJ covers 6.2 square miles and has a population of more than 13,000 residents. Berkeley Heights was originally incorporated as New Providence Township by the New Jersey Legislature on November 8, 1809, from portions of Springfield Townships.

On November 6, 1951, the name of the township was changed to Berkeley Heights, based on the results of a referendum held that day. The township was named for John Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley of Stratton, one of the founders of the Province of New Jersey.

In 1958, part of a Nike missile battery (NY-73) was installed in Berkeley Heights. The missiles were located in nearby Mountainside, while the radar station was installed in Berkeley Heights. It remained in operation until 1963, and remnants of the site are located adjacent to Governor Livingston High School.
Berkeley Heights is host to a traditional religious procession and feast carried out by members of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society. The feast is capped by one of the largest fireworks shows in the state. The Feast of Mt. Carmel has been a town tradition since 1909.

The Berkeley Heights School District is A+ rated by Niche.com and ranked as the 28th best school district out of 243 schools districts in New Jersey. The district serves 2,559 students in PK, K-12 with a student teacher ratio of 12:1. There are four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.

Berkeley Heights has been ranked fifth in the annual Safest Cities in New Jersey list by home security company Safewise. This was an increase of 25 positions from last year, when Berkeley Heights was ranked No. 30. The survey includes towns with populations over 2,500 residents and that exceed the median population for the state.
